Behind the Scenes Contributors

The project is funded and work moves ahead full steam. Part of our production process involves connecting with additional illustrators while we continue to polish the written component for each of the 250 magic item cards in the Mage Forge collection.

We thought it would be worthwhile to share some details about the creators who contributed to this project, which has roots stretching back seven years to Nerdarchy’s earliest days. Here’s a little bit about each of those whose work became part of this exciting project.

Writers

Ted Adams and Dave Friant

You know them as Nerdarchist Ted and Nerdarchist Dave, two constants throughout the history of Nerdarchy since our inception in 2014. Along with their appearances in over 3000 videos on our main YouTube channel alone these two have written hundreds of posts at Nerdarchy.com as well as editorials for our newsletter, which has steadily grown and now reaches nearly 15,000 people every week. And that’s not all! Nerdarchy has been creating and disseminating new game content every month for Patreon supporters. Dave and Ted have contributed their writing skills and game design philosophy to all these areas and more since the very beginning.

Ryan Friant and Nathan Riggins

For the first several years of Nerdarchy’s existence these two shared their creativity and energy alongside Dave and Ted to produce a tremendous amount of content. Videos, blog posts, newsletters and game material all felt the touch of these two Nerdarchy founders. Although both have since moved on from Nerdarchy to pursue other opportunities the strong foundation they helped establish continues to be a source of not only inspiration but also game material we revisit and build upon often.

Sean McGovern

This creator’s Power Score RPG brand contributed a ton to the RPG hobby over the years through videos, live stream game plays, a wonderful blog and a variety of modules for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons. Several years ago when we embarked on a different approach to producing our monthly game content for Patreon supporters Sean was the first person we contracted to help our ideas evolve. Sean’s contributions include material from our Lord of Dead Dreams and Muckwuggle the Frog God modules.

Robin Miller

A long time Nerdarchy friend and contributor, Robin’s work stretches back many years. They’ve written copious amounts of blog posts for starters as well as appearing in lots of our live game play content. More than any other creator Nerdarchy’s worked with Robin has written tons of material too, from adventures and encounters to subclasses, magic items and more. In fact Robin’s game design work is so closely enmeshed with what we’ve produced over the years it would be easier to list the titles they haven’t contributed to than those in which their work does appear.

Steven Partridge

For several years now this fellow YouTuber has been a close part of the Nerdarchy team, sharing his time and effort through dozens and dozens of blog posts and live game plays. A healthy handful of magic items in the Mage Forge come from his work with us on the website. In addition Steven was over the moon to create magic items related to his favorite Nerdarchy title Chimes of Discordia: Fantastical Mounts.

Doug Vehovec

Coming on board as a volunteer contributor to the website in January 2017 our very own Nerditor Doug stuck around and grew right alongside Nerdarchy. Taking the reins of first managing the website and later all our written material Doug’s contributions are as ingrained in the fabric of Nerdarchy as Dave’s or Ted’s. When it comes to magic items in particular this includes all our website content as well as our weekly newsletter, monthly Patreon rewards and our huge library of digital titles.

Artists

Brendan Lancaster

This Canadian illustrator reached out to Nerdarchy to offer his services specifically for the Mage Forge project. We’ve been incredibly impressed with Brendan’s quality and speed along with a terrific working relationship with our de facto art director Nerdarchist Ted.

You can find out more about Brendan and enjoy his fantastic work here.

Thuan

This graphic design student from Wichita State University really helped Nerdarchy improve our art game when we began working with him several months ago. Thuan visually captures ideas and concepts from our imagination with amazing talent.

You can learn more about Thuan and check out more of his wonderful work here.

Nelson Vieira

We’ve been working with Nelson for about four years now, since another Mage Forge contributor Sean McGovern connected us with this illustrator. Nelson’s clean work and speed enabled us to add customized art and illustrations to our growing product line, which represented a big step forward for Nerdarchy.

You can discover more of Nelson’s solid work here.

Erica Willey

This illustrator’s bold style leapt straight off the screen and into our imaginations. We’ve worked with Erica on a variety of projects beyond even the bounds of the fantasy genre. Erica’s work brings bold color and design along with intriguing detail to whatever wild concepts we throw her way.

You can browse through a collection of her outstanding artwork here.

Mage Forge Funded!
almost 3 years ago – Thu, Jan 13, 2022 at 05:46:51 AM

Thanks to all the wonderful support from backers this project is now fully funded. Our Deluxe Box Set of 250 Tarot Sized Magic Item Cards for the world's greatest roleplaying game lives!

We’re overjoyed to share this collection and excited to help gamers create the same kinds of amazing and memorable experiences we’ve loved from our own games courtesy of evocative magic items.

There’s a few additional details to share about the project too. For starters every box set includes a booklet for Game Masters with extras for many of the magic items in the collection. These components incorporate things like deeper lore, plot hooks and adventure ideas, secrets and more. There’s a wild variety of magic items in the set and some of them could not be contained on a single card. Putting these extra details in this booklet gives Game Masters an opportunity to surprise adventurers with more ways to engage with their treasures and campaign settings.

For extra clarity the PDF version of Mage Forge includes all the additional details from the booklet too in a single handy digital format. The information in both sources presents the items in alphabetical order along with useful tables and charts to organize the items in different ways so GMs can find exactly what they’re seeking at a glance.

There are still 23 days to go for Mage Forge and it’s been awesome to see the excitement surrounding the project continue to swell. Let’s keep it going!

New developments!
almost 3 years ago – Sun, Jan 09, 2022 at 02:08:51 AM

Our friends from SHARD TABLETOP reached out to us with an awesome opportunity: all Mage Forge backers at the Apprentice level or higher will automatically receive the Shard version as part of their pledge!

We’ve worked with the folks from Shard through our Out of the Box project, which you’ll also find there, and we were super happy when they contacted us about this proposal. More value for the awesome people who support our project? Heck yes!

Huge thanks to Shard for reaching out. We love offering you even more bang for your buck and this applies to those who already backed as well. You don’t have to do anything extra. Just back Mage Forge at the Apprentice level or higher and you’ll get this access to Shard right along with your pledge.

In addition, a number of people let us know they’d like to see a retailer pledge level. So we went ahead and added this option for 6,12,18 and 24 packs with FREE DELIVERY to retailers.

Aside from these developments we’re excited to see Mage Forge is nearly funded after the first day. Those familiar with RPG Kickstarters probably recognize the name Landon Jamieson, a Superbacker who shares tons of data in the comments for many projects. There’s some terrific insights and it’s awesome to see Mage Forge moving forward and trending towards a frankly phenomenal result.

As Landon points out in one of the comments, here are things you can do to help propel this project further:

  • Comment! Discuss the project with fellow backers, reply to others and share your enthusiasm. These actions feed the algorithm and give greater visibility to the project.
  • Like and comment on updates (like this one!).
  • Share the campaign on your social media accounts and interact with posts from others who’ve done the same.
  • Visit the Kicktraq page for Mage Forge
  • Have fun and stay positive to create an inviting scenario for new backers

Thank you so much to all the fantastic people who’ve already put their support behind Mage Forge and helped spread the word.

Stay nerdy!
